Dosage Instructions

Important Guidelines:

  • Do not mix with any other additive – run tank down first, if other additives have been used
  • Do not mix with LRP or Diesel, or use in vehicles fitted with catalytic converters
  • Remember that TetraBOOST is a genuine lead additive and not a substitute
  • TetraBOOST may be mixed at any time with Bayford Thrust leaded 4 star fuel

  1. The top marked increment on the container is not less than 145ml, and thereafter it is marked in amounts of 100ml. For practical purposes you may treat the amount of TetraBOOST above the 800ml mark to the top of the bottle as being 150ml.
  2. The dosage is not precisely critical, since any overdose will simply marginally increase the octane rating. Equally, under dosing will slightly reduce the octane rating. For proper lead protection of valves, stems and guides, never dose below a 2-point octane increase.
  3. Although it is possible to obtain an increase of up to 8 octane points by raising the dose level of TetraBOOST as shown below, increases above 3 points may exceed the legal tetraethyl lead limit for road fuel. 99/100 octane (4 star plus) is sufficient for most road cars. For competition use, higher octane ratings can be achieved. A comprehenside dose chart is shown below. For competition cars with foam filled tanks or collapsible bag tanks, you must pre-mix TetraBOOST with the base fuel in a separate container and agitate before filling, to ensure a uniform mixture.
To each 100ml of TetraBOOST, add:
Quantity Fuel Base Mixture Result Octane Boost

Note that BP Ultimate and Esso Supreme are both rated at 97 octane. In Europe most garages stock 98 octane unleaded, which is better than most UK fuels.

TetraBOOST recommends Shell V-Power for all high performance cars and for race use.

Some of these dosages may exceed legal levels of TEL for road use.

Advantages of TetraBOOST over other race fuel mixes

Customer dyno tests show improved torque figures typically 3-4%. Improved BHP typically 2-3%. Slightly cooler running. These tests showed that TetraBOOST gives meaningful improvements in torque and BHP over other race mixes and pre-prepared race fuels, including back to back tests with unleaded/AVGAS mixes.

Drivers report increased smoothness of engines, and better and cleaner pickup in the gears - especially out of slow corners. Most customers show an improvement in lap times with TetraBOOST. Many hillclimbers are reporting personal bests on our additive.

TetraBOOST can be mixed to conform to MSA regulations - (section P) BS4040 leaded fuel - giving a lead content from 50mg to 150mg per litre. We are now the chosen fuel additive in everything from blown A7s to 8C Alfas, 250Fs to V16 BRMs and most '50s, '60s and '70s classics. Please note that many competitors running on methanol are now mixing in TetraBOOST as a valve lubricant.

This year customer cars have lead the Historic Clubmans' championship and the Classic Rally Championship. Race engines entrusted to TetraBOOST include numerous vintage race engines, from Bentley to 8c Alfas through to Aston Martins and Ferraris. In historic F1, F2 and F3, we supply additive for Cooper Climax Cosworth DFVs up to V16 BRMs. Numerous classic sports car marques and classic saloons from Ferraris, Astons and Healeys, to Mustangs and Chevrolets.
